Ingredients:

  • 8 beef hot dogs
  • 8 hot dog buns
  • 1 medium white onion, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1 tsp corn syrup

Instructions:

  1. Trim the ends of the beef hot dogs. Note: Ensure they fit snugly in the buns so they don't slide around.
  2. Carve a shallow semi circle at one end of each dog. Continue until you have a clear dip for the nail.
  3. Make 2-3 shallow horizontal slits along the length. Note: These represent the knuckles.
  4. Bring a medium pot of water to a light simmer. Wait until you see small bubbles, not a rolling boil.
  5. Slide the hot dogs into the water and simmer 5-7 minutes until they are plump and hot.
  6. Remove the dogs with tongs. Let them air dry for 2 minutes.
  7. Place each hot dog into a bun.
  8. Press a thin slice of onion into the carved nail bed.
  9. Mix the ketchup and corn syrup. Drizzle the mixture around the nail and into the knuckle slits.
