Ingredients:

  • 1 lb lean ground beef (85/15)
  • 1/2 cup yellow onion, finely diced
  • 1/2 cup green bell pepper, finely diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 3/4 cup ketchup
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar, packed
  • 1 tsp yellow mustard
  • 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1 box (8 count) frozen Texas Toast, garlic butter flavor
  • 1.5 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Place the 8 slices of frozen Texas toast on a large baking sheet and bake for 5 minutes until lightly golden.
  2. In a large skillet over medium-high heat, brown the ground beef, breaking it into small crumbles. Cook until edges are crispy and no pink remains. Drain excess fat.
  3. Reduce heat to medium. Add diced onions and bell peppers to the beef. Sauté for 5 minutes until softened, then stir in minced garlic and cook for 1 minute.
  4. Stir in ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, yellow mustard, and smoked paprika. Simmer on low for 5-8 minutes until the sauce is thick and glossy.
  5. Spoon the meat mixture evenly onto each piece of par-baked Texas toast. Top with shredded cheddar cheese.
  6. Return to the oven for 3-5 minutes until the cheese is bubbling and melted. Garnish with fresh parsley before serving.
