Ingredients:
- 1 lb lean ground beef (85/15)
- 1/2 cup yellow onion, finely diced
- 1/2 cup green bell pepper, finely diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 3/4 cup ketchup
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tbsp brown sugar, packed
- 1 tsp yellow mustard
- 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 1 box (8 count) frozen Texas Toast, garlic butter flavor
- 1.5 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- 1 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Place the 8 slices of frozen Texas toast on a large baking sheet and bake for 5 minutes until lightly golden.
- In a large skillet over medium-high heat, brown the ground beef, breaking it into small crumbles. Cook until edges are crispy and no pink remains. Drain excess fat.
- Reduce heat to medium. Add diced onions and bell peppers to the beef. Sauté for 5 minutes until softened, then stir in minced garlic and cook for 1 minute.
- Stir in ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, yellow mustard, and smoked paprika. Simmer on low for 5-8 minutes until the sauce is thick and glossy.
- Spoon the meat mixture evenly onto each piece of par-baked Texas toast. Top with shredded cheddar cheese.
- Return to the oven for 3-5 minutes until the cheese is bubbling and melted. Garnish with fresh parsley before serving.
